Donkey Shed

Main space

The main living space is double height with kitchen, sitting and dining all enjoying the spectacular view. The burner will warm you if it is chilly out - we'll lay the fire and provide a row of logs (further supplies can be purchased from us). We also provide a couple of bottles of excellent ale from our favourite local brewery on your arrival.

Inside

Upstairs on a mezzanine is a king sized bed and rocking chair warmed by the wood burner flue. Downstairs is a cosy bunk room with shelves stacked with decent novels. The bathroom is across the hall. With separate shower and enormous bath tub wrapped in marble, we also provide Honey Bee Beautiful organic soap and relaxing bath bombs, both made locally.

Outside

Outside there are seating areas all with fantastic views - there's a sunny corner to read the morning paper, a table on the patio directly outside the front door to enjoy a meal, a picnic table amongst the wildflowers and a bench with a buzzard's eye view of the river, all within 30 minutes of the M4/M5 interchange.

Get the full experience

Let’s eat

Walk to a riverside pub and reward yourself with a local cask ale. The Whitebrook Restaurant is 10 minutes by car (or a lovely walk), The Walnut Tree and The Hardwick are also within reach and a real treat. The Ostrich Inn, The Pig & Apple and Kingstone Brewery are all great options for a more laid back experience.

The River Wye

Step out of the door and onto the Wye Valley Walk. There's wild swim opportunities for the brave! Or canoe it! There are several canoe hire outlets in Monmouth that also provide guiding.

Get active

Uncover local mountain bike trails or hire bikes at Pedalabikeaway mountain biking centre in the Forest of Dean. Go Ape or get lost in Puzzlewood, climb Symonds Yat Rock and take a guided foraging experience with Gourmet Gatherings. Find your inner peace on a stand up paddle board at Mallard's Pike Lake.

Just relax

Our space is designed for relaxing in nature. Grab a book, watch the wildlife and enjoy the views. Cosy up next to the wood burner at night and take in the starry sky.

“This tranquil retreat was just the tonic for weary city folk. Bit of a digital detox, slowing down, getting back to the simple things… The view - WOW. Just dreamy looking over the misty Wye to the wooded valley side beyond. We were blessed with clear nights and got to see spectacular stars, milky way and all.”
